I always thought up was forward. Except back in '73 to '77 on the V models.

Hmmm....might be....LOL. Fifty fifty chance.....

Here's a suggestion OP.....figure it out yourself. Easy to do.
Push shift rod down, turn driveshaft clockwise. If propshaft also turns clockwise, it is in forward.
If propshaft turns counterclockwise, I guess that would mean the LU is in reverse....

Hmmmm.

And I would NOT try to run the boat making way forward with a counter-rotating prop while in reverse....that would be just schtoopid....

Up is forward. I checked on another motor.
My problem was that I don't know if my controls were wired weird or something.

I was concerned that the remote was connected in a way that it was backwards.
but it looks like most likely the lower-end was replaced on the motor.
