My Evinrude 70 HP started bogging after towing a ring with an adult and child in it 2 years ago. Since then I've taken it to 2 mechanics who simply serviced it and told me there's nothing wrong. It runs fine in my drive way but bogs down under load. Anyway I've given up on the mechanics and decided to take care of it myself. Basically, it runs fine at WOT but when I slow down to idle and try to take off again it bogs. Here's what I've done so far:
1. Replaced fuel lines and bulb
2. Cleaned carbs and installed new kit
3. Installed new fuel pump kit
4. Tested on the water and still bogs down
5. Also found that the throttle cable is at the end of its adjustment so I've ordered a new one.
I recently discovered that the stator is leaking black goo and several articles on this forum suggest replacing it when that happens.
My question is: could the stator be the causing the bogging?
Any help is appreciated.
