Good morning,

I have a johnson model 25el77s and I am considering converting it to a tiller steer. Can anyone here identify what parts I need to buy?

thanks,

Will your motor accept a handle. Some don't have the right stuff to accept one. stan in ohio

Thank you for the replies,

The motor has a handle where the steering linkage is attached in the middle. It does not have what I have seen with a part on the right side (facing front of engine) that looks like it would be suitable to bolt on a tiller arrangement.

I have looked at the parts list for the motor but it does not have anything for a tiller, I believe that this is because it is a remote control motor.

I am uploading two pictures so that his hopefully makes more sense.

I think you would have to change the steering bracket. If that is the case then maybe you can find a donor motor with tiller steering.

Yep, I concur with HF's assessment. Lots of fiddly little parts to find if you do it piecemeal. Finding a junker with what you need is the way to go. Most of the 25-35 models from the late 1970s-early 1980s will have what you need. By mid 1980s they had switched to a cable throttle system which needs a different belly pan.

The exact part number is 0322883 for the main bracket, used from 1977 to 1980. Used on the 25 and 35 models. Other years may work, but the parts listings don't indicate as such...
