Evinrude 90 without power tilt and trim

I have a 1986 evinrude 90hp
The power tilt is not working
Could I remove the whole power tilt and trim assembly and just manually lift and lower the motor after I launch the boat?
And is the any locking mechanism when it's in the lower position?
Or is it just to heavy to manually lift and lower the outboard?

You can but will need to install the reverse lock components or the engine will raise up when trying to back off trailer or under sudden deceleration...my be better to repair trim!!

What's wrong with the unit you now have ??

The electric motor is gone
And someone cut the shaft on the center piston to get the motor up and down

I'd try E-Bay or Craigs List to find some used parts for it. That shouldn't be that hard to repair.
