Does anyone know what type of sealant to use between crankcase halves on a '57 Johnson Seahorse 18 hp? When i took it apart there was no gasket or any residue that would indicate RTV was used. Any help would be appreciated

Original was Marprox Sealer 1000, no longer available and replaced by Scotchgrip 847. Same stuff is used on the lower unit gearcase skeg. mcmaster.com has it cheaper then the Evinrude dealers. And yes, no spaghetti on the 18 crankcase.

EDIT: mcmaster part number 7509A65

Are there any alternatives for the scotch grip 847 that I could find at an auto parts store?

Loctite 515 is an anaerobic sealer that works well for this situation. I use the 3M 847 as FR mentioned, but there are a lot of members that also swear by the Loctite 515.

When i search loctite 515 it comes up with loctite 518. Is that the same thing?
