I have a 1977 Johnson 70 hp. On the water, I close tank vant and prime the bulb until firm. Start the motor and let it run. It slowly dies and bulbs goes soft. Only takes a few minutes. Sometimes the bulb actually collapses in on itself. Any ideas?

Agree completely. And the bulb going soft after it is running is normal that is supposed to happen. The vent is closed for trailering and storage and open for operation.

I thought the vent had to be open to prevent swelling in heat during storage.

Suck on an empty soda bottle. Think you could get any fuel out of it if it was a fuel tank??

Well that too. Just leave the stupid vent open. If tank is slap full and slopping gas out the vent while trailering, close it.
