I do not see why folks think an electric pump is the solution to a failed mechanical pump. They fail to realize that should a carb problem occur and the engine dies, the pump keeps running filling the engine with fuel. Attempts to restart the engine results in a bang (a big one at that). Use of an electric pump requires an automatic shut-off should the engine die. This is why an oil pressure switch or the ECU on modern engines controls the pump. And NO -- you will not remember to kill the pump with the ignition switch in an emergency. You have been warned -- DON'T DO IT!
