Taking my new/used 1979 Evinrude 15 two-stroke out for the 1st time to troll for Kokanee & Eagle Lake strain Rainbows this weekend. Plug # on the boot is L78V and am running a 50:1 mixture - will this plug do for slow 1 - 2 mph trolling or will I be fouling plugs? What is the next hotter heat range plug I might consider?

PS - lake elavation is approx. 500' above sea level.

Re: 79 Evinrude - Spark Plugs

You can switch to a QL77JC4 and gap it at 0.040" for less chance of fouling at slow speeds. The L78V is a surface gap plug. I'm not a big fan of that style plug, but it is an option that is supposed to be "low fouling", but I've had better results with a st'd electrode plug. Why not compare and let us know.
Good luck

QL82C is one step hotter than the (Q)L77JC4.
The UL77V has an internal gap as well as external to help prevent fouling.

Sorry for the late reply - motor ran fine and never showed signs of fouling the L78V's. Caught a nice limit of two Eagle Rainbows and three fat Kokanee!
