200 hp Johnson VRO fuel pump questions

I have a fuel pump leak on my 1990 200 hp Johnson VRO. The oil lines were disconnected by the previous owner. My question is can I replace it with a standard fuel pump or do I have to use the VRO oil and fuel pump. There is a large difference in price between the two.

I would take the VRO pump apart for inspection.----------There may not be anything wrong with it.------Easy to do.--------What is the motor doing / not doing ?

The pump has a fuel leak and the motor runs rough at full throttle like it's starved for fuel.

They do make a fuel side repair kit but if the housing is cracked and leaking it won't help
