Hey everyone, got a question about Timing. I am missing the sticker on the air box for the timing degree number.
The motor is a 1985 but check the part numbers on the ignition components they are for a 1986 -1987 model.
I have read it is from 19 deg. to 22deg. Anybody know what it should be?

Thanks for any input.

The flywheel is marked at 16 deg. if you look close. 22 deg minus 4 deg. is that why the 16 deg is marked?
also notice the second scribe 4 teeth before TDC.

I have used the joe reeves method with good success and 22-4=18 not 16

The marks you see are from somebody resetting the TDC pointer. You use a piston stop and find two spots on either side of TDC and scribe marks, then split the difference, remove the piston stop then rotate the flywheel so the pointer is aimed at the middle point you scribed, then you move the pointer to align with TDC. You should do it whenever you have the flywheel off (if you're super anal about the timing) as there's some play in the keyway and you could be off a degree either way.

intera - I did have the flywheel off when I replaced the stator. I will find the new TDC that way. thanks.

boobie - I called BRP the lady said their records only go back to 1995. She was very nice and put me on hold for 15 min while she asked around the office and did a quick search on the WWW. She had no luck and told me to start calling my local Evinrude dealers to find it.

That's the small bore looper and max timing is set at 18 degrees if memory is correct.. Make sure cooling system is top notch for a little better idle and prevent bridge port scuffing,
