1980 evinrude 115 hp water pump replacement

There are supposed to be 2 wires ( shift wires ) to disconnect to pull off the lower end. I don't see them but someone told me they are midway down. Does this mean I can pull the lower and and while doing so I will find the 2 wires. ?

There are no shift wires on a 1980 model. Give us a model # to make sure it's not an earlier motor that has wires.

model number is 115mlcs. So if I loosen all the bolts and the tork ring will it just slide off with nothing to disconnect ?

??---On a 1980 model you have to disconnect the shiftrod just below the bottom carburetor.
