88 j150 charging & jumping purple wire

So replaced r/r, stator, and ignition fighting my charging issue.
So following cdi's trouble shooting if I jump the purple wire to a positive feed wala boat charges. What's the issue with leaving the purple wire on the ignition side of the start solenoid so it's only hot while keys on as a means of having it charge. Or is there a much simpler solution i am missing to fix it correctly?

It uses the purple to turn on and off.You cannotleave it tied to a hot as it will drain battery and possibly overheat when engine is not running.If you do not have 12V on the purple wire check your keyswitch,
