Orange wire

We recently installed a new coil on our 70 Hp Johnson motor. Can the old orange wire(to the defective coil) be pulled out from the connector to the power pack and the new orange wire pushed into the connector? We have never done this and it looks challenging. Can we just splice the new orange wire to the old one?
thanks for any advice.Soddy

Ideally you need the special tools to remove and install the pins but you could proabably improvise. Lube with isopropyl for insertion of the new pin.

Lube with WD-40 and use a needle nose pliers to push the old one out. Lube the new one and push it in if it is a CDI coil be careful they use kind of flimsy pins.

Cut, splice, solder and heatshrink and you'd be fine. Personally I like glue-lined heat shrink for inline splices - strengthens and waterproofs.

Not hard to swap the pins in the plugs. A bit of isopropyl to briefly lubricate the surfaces and it should slide out. You can use a fine tip set of needle nose to push the new one in, again with a bit of iso to lube it. Be done in less than a minute...
