I am ready to set the timing on my 5.5 Johnson cd-12. I don't see any timing marks on the flywheel. Do I need to get some sort of timing fixture? Or are there marks on the flywheel I am not seeing? thanksin advance...Tony. ps..I plan on putting some pics of the motor when Its finished, should be a couple of weeks.

When you gap the points at 0.020" you are setting the timing.----If you want to check it you shine your timing light at the 2 vertical lines on the mag plate.---The timing mark on the flywheel will always show up inbetween those 2 marks.----Yes it will.--Check both cylinders.

You can either set them at 020 when the rubbing block for the points is at the widest point on the cam, or you can use a timing fixture if you have one, and set it so that the pointer of the fixture is between the two hash marks when the points just break open. If you don't have a fixture, setting them with the feeler gauge will work fine.
