Motor is a 175 fast strike 96 year model. Starts easy enough but idles rough you can rev the engine but at idle it seems that its only running on part of the cylinders. Motor is quiter at idle than normal. Will come up on plane and accelerate with some miss then smooths out as rpms increase. When you trim up the motor cuts out when you let of the trim rpms return to normal. Most certainly a voltage drop but from what? I have a spare motor but this may be more than I can tackle. Any advice would be appreciated

Do a cylinder drop test on it to see if it's running on all of the cylinders.

PTT units use a lot of current, especially when trimming under load. However, the ignition on that motor should not care about the voltage drop, as it runs on the stator. Check the shift assist switch, as it cuts spark to 1/2 the motor, when active.

The miss could be a dirty carb or two. Start with the electrical tests.
