Lower shift linkage seal on 1977 Johnson 15? Extra parts?

I am replacing the lower unit seals on my 77 Johns 15hp. I have the 87602 seal kit have have most of the parts replaced. However there is an o ring in a brass insert for the lower shift linkage. For the life of me I cannot get the o-ring out. I also tried extracting the brass bushing with no luck (I assume it is press fit from the top?). Another issue I have is that the kit came with 4 matching o-ring plus 1 smaller o-ring that I cannot seem to find a home for? Are these extra's for a different model year?

Help would be greatly appreciated...I need to get this motor back together so I can snowmobile it back to the cabin before the snow melts!

You just run a 5/16-NC tap into that bushing and pull it out with some threaded rod.
