Hi all, this is my second post on this forum. You helped me to solve a problem in the gear box of the evinrude 1969 85hp. Now I am having some difficulties in connecting the tachometer. What I know is that the electric signal is given by the alternator. But my question is, Can I get signal from the ignition amplifier? The engine has the original Motorola amplifier. It has a cable that connects to a terminal. Can this be used to get the signal? The tachometer I have normally goes connected to the negative pin of the ignition coil in a regular ignition system. But I tried to do this and it didn’t work. I ‘ll wait for your response. Thanks very much.

The motor as it came from the factory was wired to get the tach signal from the amplifier. But it required a special tachometer to read it. Not only that, I think many replacement amplifiers do not have the tach wire. Short story is use an alternator tach and be done with it.
