It might make sense to buy a complete motor with a blown / bad powerhead if you can find one. Last month I bought a 1990 88hp with 1 bad piston for $250, sold the lower unit and prop a few days later for $300 now I'm up 50 bucks and have a ton of spare parts including the tilt and trim and controls.
I'd sell you mine but I'm in Ontario. Anyhow, as I understand it, pretty much all of the 3 cyl and V4 motors up to 1995 or so are compatible.
