Will the tiller handle gears from a 1958 10hp fit the 1958 18 hp johnson sea horse or does anyone know where to buy some new ones I have found one for the twist throttle but need the one that engages the throttle shaft on the motor

Yes, the 10 and 18 use the same tiller, gears and shafts from about 1957 on up.

With all due respect to my friend chinewalker, that is not correct. 1958 10hp uses a different gear/shaft in the steering bracket than the 18 does. However, the 10 and 18 1957 and OLDER use common parts. 10hp underwent a change in 1958..

You got me! Forgot about the switchover to the 5.5/7.5 tiller bracket configuration. BUT, the tiller handle itself is the same through the run, and the ball gears remained the same as well. Only diff was the shaft on the tiller bracket side. They come as an assembly, but it is possible to swap the ball gears from one shaft to another. The hole for the pin is offset to assure it is aligned correctly to the shaft, which is notched on the other end.
