1966 33 johnson fuel problems

I have a 1966 Johnson 33 seahorse that has a cough on idle and when you throttle up is stalls. Where should the mixture screws be and what else could be the problem?

Open the low speed mixture 1/4 turn and see what happens.--------Has some one adjusted anything on that rod that goes from the carburetor to the back of the motor ??

These engines are all adjusted different!! Try setting the low speed screw closed & back out 1 & 1/2 turns. Then High speed closed & back out 1/2 turn to 3/4 turn. if it runs - slow- turn low speed in till coughs then back out maybe 1/2 turn. then put in gear run @ fast speed & reset in that needle till coughs or dies- back out till runs good.
