I have a 1975 Johnson 50 horse and has no tilt or trim. It's a really good strong motor. Can I add tilt and trim or better off to go with an aftermarket jack plate style?

Can go either way. An OEM style will have to be from a salvage. Any of the twin cylinder OMC will work from 1975 - 1988. In my area you could expect to spend around $300.00 for a good working OMC tilt unit. Not sure what a CMC unit would cost.

The CMC's are about $500. But it's new and puts the motor a few inches back, which has some benefits. And probably more tilt range. Like 90*.

Again, you could go either way. All depends on how you want to spend your money. Either way is not going to be cheap.
