Wondering what year and hp this is. From my reading it is a 15hp? Not sure if it is electric start, if it was it is not there. The flywheel has one toothed ring and the pull cord notch for emergency. Good compression and fire. What spark plugs do I need and advice on first start attempt. I will take some photos tomorrow. I read about purging through the carb with fogging oil. I intend to pull it 15 or 20 times doing that. I assume plugs out for that. Few broken pieces and missing little stuff. Thanks!

Well, a FDE10 is a 1956 JOHNSON 15hp, not an evinrude. If it has an evinrude cowl, it must be a bit of a FrankenRude.

Step 1 test compression. What are your readings?

Step 2 test spark. It must jump a 1/4" open air gap. Not just by holding plug beside the block. That tells you nothing.

If the coils are original, they will be cracked and junk. I would at least have a look through inspection hole in flywheel.

Change the gear oil. Install new crush washers.

Install new water pump impeller.

It runs well on champion J6Cs
