I just bought a boat with a 1979 Evinrude 70 outboard. It ran fine for 1st hour. Second day I took it out on the river to fish, drove it in a very slow speed for about 20 mins, then the motor die. I couldn't get it to start again even with using choke and fast idle. The starter crank good and strong with 2 brand new batteries but wouldn't start the motor. After I got the boat home, I saw black milky oil leaking out of the motor bottom. The previous owner said the fuel has sat for a long time and he added some addictive prior to selling. Please help to fix the problem and get the boat start again. Thank you very much!

I just bought a 1977 boat with a 1977 Evinrude 70 hp. I'm going through the same problem as you are. Mine is in the 'shop'. I hope it just needs the carburetors rebuilt. I'll know more at the end of next week. I was told the float and needle valves are 'maybe' dirty and stuck.
