1994 Evinrude 15hp shift shaft seal removal HELP

Went to drain my lower unit oil recently and there was quite a bit of water. I figured out the shift shaft seal in my 1994 evinrude 15hp is leaking oil pretty bad. I bought the replacement seal, O-ring, and bushing, but I have no idea how to pull the current seal, was wondering if anyone has had the same problem and found a solution.

Run a 5/16-NC tap in for about 4 threads and use threaded rod to pull it out.
