Water indicator port/hole is usually located at back right lower pan as seen from engine's back, right under rear cover. If it's clogged won't see engine peeing..

See p4 of your owner's manual. non-electric models may not have had the check port standard.

It's not as simple as one might think, for that, must drill a portion of the lower powerhead to add/insert a small tube & small hose to powerhead or cylinder head water circuit/passage. Need to drill a same size hose diam hole on lower pan for other side of hose to exit there Too complicated. How about installing a heat sensing unit to monitor, something that shuts CD off if cylinder head temp passes above its working temp ? Something like a thermo fuse attached to cylinder head could work. Ingenuity and creativity are limitless...

Correction, there isn't a exit nipple & water hose on the crank case or adjacent areas in newer 40C. so must have a factory cast inside/outside middle leg water peeing port, same as the 18 HP model. In older 40C it's Mission Impossible installing one.

Newer 40C models have a built in internal peeing system that pees through upper left mid section.

The only possible way to install a peeing port would be removing cylinder head, drill a hole on right water path side, insert a tube that has 2-2.5 mm internal diam, connect a hose, drill same size diam hose hole on pan for hose to exit. Quite a job. Love doing challenging conversions but limited to some extent.-
