Is there a conversion kit to convert a tiller driven 2 stroke M50 D2 engine to be electric start ?

Thanks Paul,

Which parts does the kit includes ? A boater bought (5) 50 D2 to find out that are near impossible to rope start if with skinny arm, Was told, warned but ignorded the recommendation about buying electric start engines from the very beginning. A costly mistake indeed.

Paul,

Being M50 electric starter kit out of stock, will need to buy all what comes inside the kit separately, right ?

Yes that would be my opinion. It seems your engine (and I have no ideas about it even a little bit) has the proper holes already for such an upgrade. So look for the main individual part numbers and search everywhere for them. One of those bidding sites would be a great place to look. The little stuff can be bought locally I'm sure. But this is only my opinion! :)

Battery cord and a few fasteners are OOS; you can probably get those locally. Otherwise you would be OK to get the parts in the list.

See a neutral switch on the list, if the engine will remain tiller driven, will still need the neutral switch ? assume this part is for remote control, right ?

The neutral safety is to prevent electric starting in gear, regardless of whether tiller or remote. If the motor were say at WOT, and started in gear, that could be quite a surprise, and very possibly an accident in the making.

Paul,

Is kit code 3C8763002M same for M50D2 & M70D2 models ?

I would be surprised if the engine didn't already have a neutrals safety switch already installed, or some other type mechanical lockout if not in neutral to start the engine. But I so easily could be wrong too!

Yes, both engines have a safety mechanical lock in which can't pull rope if in other position than in neutral.

Paul,

40 & 50 are same CC, 70 has larger CC compared to. Is it possible to ask Tohatsu if same electric starter kit for the M50D2 matches a M70C. If so, could work to order both from you if that's ok with you.

They do use a common starter motor. but the part number for the bracket is different...

I'm new to electric start engines, so it's a common starter motor for both, but each model must have its own propietary bracket, Does this part comes included in their respective model kit or needs to be bought separately if opting buying all needed spare parts to complet a kit ?

There is no kit for the US 70 hp models -- they are all electric start. So you would buy a 50 hp kit, and then get the 70 hp bracket... or get individual parts, but that would probably cost more.

Paul,

There's no such M70 D2 model, just stayed at M70C just like the old M40C. Ok about data, thanks
