Mixture setting on 6 horse Tohatsu?

First time out, my 2009 Tohatsu 4 stroke wouldn't run without full choke, so I stripped the carb down and did a soak in carb cleaner. It now runs O.K., but the mixture screw is screwed right in, and it still runs happily and revs freely. I haven't yet tried it under load. Is it alright to run it this lean or should I back it off a turn or so?

Are you asking about the idle adjustment screw or the hidden air mixture screw that should NEVER have been touched?

If you have disturbed the pilot screw (you would have needed to remove a brass plug to gain access to it)... you will need a good shop tach and a good ear, and will need to try to get the idle mixture setting back to the proper setting, as though it was an old-style, pre-EPA carb.
