Honda 50 throttle problem

[Swamp thing]

My 50 overheat buzzer came on, turned out impeller was bad, changed it and now squirts great but does not accelerate.
Is a thermostat bad or? Thanks for any help

Model and year?
Start to isolate the problem.
When you engage the throttle is it also moving the linkage on the carb?
or is it not engaging the forward or reverse? try to be more detailed with the problem

If it was fine before the overheat then you probably have some engine damage. Start with a compression or leak down test.
