about to pull the trigger on a nissan 9.9 4 stroke. short shaft, 2002, very low hours.

my question, how are these motors? what do i look out for? this is the third 4 stroke im buying. i know a little about 2 strokes, and, these off shore motors are all greek to me. im a omc guy, but this seems like a great deal. low hour motor very clean freshwater only. guy said it isnt even broken in yet. less than 8 hours of run time.

i have had a honda (pos, wont get another), a johnson that needs about 300.00 in parts and now im thinking that a nissan short shaft would be good knowledge.

We prefer the 9.8 for the lower weight. That said, the old NSF9.9B and B2 is pretty solid technology. It has the auto by starter solenoid, so no choke is needed -- the enrichment is automatic. The 9.9 has been dropped from production... the 9.9/15/18 was replaced by the 15/20C, which is an overall bigger frame.

Like any 11-year oldie, expect to replace the impeller and lubricants, and definitely check compression when you test it before buying..

Buy it and convert it to a 15.

You know, technically you could turn it into a 20 by replacing everything above the motor leg:) Although I don't know anyone who would be stupid enough to spend that kind of money...Wait, this is on the internet, so some moron somewhere will do it now. lmao

i decided to pass. it was a 200 mile trip one way. i would have done the trek, but the other two motors i was to purchase were sold. so... it wasent worth the trip for one motor.

That sounds like a great price, in my area the 2 strokes still seem to go for $700-800 and 4 strokes go for around $1000.
