Tohatsu lower unit compatibilityears

I have a 1986 M70A. The A & B gears in the lower unit are gone but the motor is in great shape. It seems that the gears for this lower unit are hard to come by. Does anyone know if the 70B or C gears can be used in this gear case? Perhaps by changing the whole set & the clutch? Also, can newer lower units be interchanged with this one?

You will be looking for the LU from a 45, 50, 60, or 70... only the A models, at a salvage yard. The newer LU's are not interchangeable.
