Tohatsu tiller throttle direction

My sailing club has recently bought 2 new 15hp Tohatsu outboards with tiller steer. If you are right handed (and therefore sit on the port side of the boat so your right hand is nearest the back of the boat) the throttle direction is lift the wrist to open the throttle and drop the wrist to close the throttle. Is this normal as it feels totally wrong to anyone who has driven a motorbike? I have looked and it would be quite easy to swop it over but I am wondering if this is the standard and if so why is it opposite to the way a motorbike is set up?

Its not standard, learn to use your left hand. Never met a southpaw ask to have his shifter in his car swapped over to the door, or ask to have the shift pattern reversed.
