Hi there,

I have a Tohatsu M18D without a tilt tube! I would like to connect it with a steering cable but i am not sure which is the most effective way! Which of the following way do you recommend

a) Splashwell mounting?

b) Clamp block?

c) or Make my own tilt tube like the one in the following picture?

Many Thanks

I hope that my splashwell is adequate enough to allow the installation of clamp block!
Or do you think that for boats with splashwell is better the option A?
Many thanks again!

In either A or B, you will depend on the strength of the splash well. On really old setups, a "tiller cable" was used, which was a pull-pull arrangement. They were done away with years ago for safety reasons. All modern cables are now of the push-pull type. Regardless, even the tiller cable setups still depended on the strength of the mounting location.

If in doubt, you can probably reinforce the splash well.

If you are really really really in doubt, you will need to fabricate a tilt tube.

Many thanks for your help!
I think my boat's splashwell is strong enough to withstand the pressure from A and B options!
I will try also to post a picture!
