Hello, I have a 2000 Nissan 15 HP NSF15B outboard that keeps blowing out the oil filter gasket when running.
The filter is on good and tight.
It will run for a minute then when you give it a little gas, blow the rubber gasket out of the side of the oil filter.

I have tried 3 different oil filters with the same results.

Seems like something is clogged or plugged but I really do not know?

Any ideas?

Sure sounds like you are not tightening the oil filter. there really isn't that much preasure in that system.

I actually am using a filter wrench and putting the boots to it...it is as tight as it will get...way tighter than I would ever think is needed.
Is there a crankcase breather that could be clogged or similar?

I would do an oil pressure test, following the procedure in the Factory service manual. If the pressure is way too high, you may have debris in the port to the plunger (pressure relief valve) or a jammed valve. Don't overtighten that filter, or you may have a lot of trouble getting it off later.

Can you tell me where I can find the pressure relief valve on this motor?
I can't find it on the parts diagram?

Item 14 in the diagram.

To test pressure, remove the oil sender (1/8" pipe thread) and put on a gauge. Expect about 40 psi. If over 100 psi, you have something really wrong.

Sorry for the newbie question...but how would I get to part # 14? do I have to take the motor apart?

Don't get the cart ahead of the horse. First, confirm high pressure by testing. Then, if you need to get to the plunger, you will pull the powerhead. You will need a new base gasket when reinstalling.

Instead of posting in old threads, starting a new thread gets help.
