04 Honda 225 lower unit problem

Any experts out there on a lower unit on a honda 225 lower unit. My gear case is putting grease into the water pump and has a high pitch whine in forward gear. It is a counter clock wise rotation case but when i purchased it a few weeks ago it I found out it turned clockwise. Would the shift shaft be out 180 deg. and cause it to run forward on the reverse gears or is this how they get a counter rotation engine. Anyone know about these. Thanks

If it is a counter rotation, there will be a sticker on the plate just above the prop, on the right side facing the transom. You should be able to look at the prop and tell. No the shift shaft is not the way they get a counter rotation lower unit. It is in the gears.
