The 4/5/6 share blocks; The carb is the difference; carbs for the 4, 5, and 6 interchange. No need to go to the 5 hp carb; You can change to the 6 hp carb. Need to know the model, not the year. If it was manufactured in 2010 or 2011, it should be either an MFS4B or MFS4C. (The C model has the front shifter, while the B has the shifter on the side). In order to do an exact carb swap, you would order either 3AU032000M CARBURETOR, MFS/NSF6B $110.97 or 3JE032000M CARBURETOR ASSY, MFS/NSF6C $112.89. Or, at a loss of EPA compliance, you can use the carb from the 6A2: 3R4032001M CARBURETOR ASSY, MFS/NSF6A2 $110.97.

Apologies for reviving a very old thread, but that piece of information was really what I was looking for. Thanks pvanv !

I have a Tohatsu MFS4C (with the front shifter, as noted above) and I am looking for a 6hp carb. From the above I see that the part number I should be looking is the 3JE032000M from the MFS6C.

However, the loss of EPA compliance made my think: would the 3R4032001M from the older MFS6A perform better ? Would it fit the newer MFS4C anyway? Anyone knows?

Absolutely. For upgrades, all I ever use is the carb for the 6A2. Better, more reliable idle and low speed operation. If you don't already have a supplier in mind, drop me a PM; any Tohatsu dealer can sell one to you, even me.
