Good substitute for Loctite 518, anaerobic gasket maker?

I'm rebuilding the water pump on my 1985 M8B. Anaerobic Gasket maker is called for sealing the water pipe lower seal to upper water pump case halve. I couldn't get any Loctite 518 locally. Instead I bought some Permatex #1 forma-a-gasket at my local auto supply store. The package says "fast drying, hard setting, seals rigid parts".

Q. Will this stuff work as good as the Loctite 518? If not, any thoughts on what product(s) would make a good substitute?

Thanks,

Brad

If you're talking about the grommet that seals the water pipe to the wp housing, yes, if you need anything at all, that sealer should work OK. Be sure to let it dry long enough.
