I'm making a short hop in Puget Sound from Port orchard, WA to Des Moines, WA, (about 20nm) My 1976 Catalina 27 will be slung out there and put on a truck. Unfortunately the lift in Port Orchard can't take off my mast and it's not a drop down but Des Moines can.

This is the first time using the boat and outboard. Can anyone give me an idea of how many gal an hour a 1998 Honda 15 hp four stroke would take?

I'm no Honda expert... but the rule of thumb would be less than 1.5 GPH at WOT. If you drive at hull speed of say 6 knots, for a run time of well under 4 hours, you should theoretically make it on one 6-gal. tank no problem. Of course, possible tides, currents, and headwinds mean that YMMV.

For a 2 stroke engine 10 and up to 12% of it's rated HP per hour at wot, but being a 4 stroke 35/40 % less at wot on flat seas, no wind conditions. Keeping the sib on plane between 1/2 to 3/4 throttle would be the way to go for fuel efficiency and long cruising.
