Well I went to put a new water pump kit in my 5hp today. While trying to get the shift shaft to go down into reverse it felt like it was stuck and I guess i tugged on it a little too forcefully and ripped it out of the lower unit. It doesn't appear like I broke anything but I have no idea.

I've been messing with it for over an hour now and get figure out how to get it to reattach down there.

Any help is appreciated, thanks

Do you know what kind of linkage it has? You may have to tear down the lower unit.

I'm not sure what kind it is. I can post a picture if that would help.

It's a cam linkage. Your shift clutch block and clutch guide pin will be spring loaded.....Start tearing down but just enough to move the prop shaft out in order to get the linkage back in.
