Honda BF50 Power up problem

I have a 2001 BF 50 and have trouble with it powering up.
The motor start and idles great, however whenever it throttle up it wants to die. If it back off and very slowly throttle up it sometimes will take off and other times die.
A friend suggested that I hit the electric choke as I throttle up and this sometimes helps...most times not.
Once I do get it powered up it runs great.
I have changed the plugs....Installed a new fuel pump and still have the problem.
Has anyone else had this problem with their Honda?

Thanks,

Ron

Sounds like carbs, probably picked up some trash, or they're varnished.

Did you change your low and high pressure filters? The high pressure filter is a bit further into the motor. You wont be able to see it. I had a similar problem and once that was changed it ran great! I could not get it to throttle up at all really though. But it would idle for a bit.

Re: Honda BF50 Power up problem

A 2001 BF 50 has carburetors, it only has one low pressure pump driven by the crankcase. Usually if you have hesitation or the motor dies with acceleration you have a carb problem. Assuming compression, leak down, spark, and plugs are good.
