Converting Honda BF9.9 to 15 hp

Hello,

Bought a used 1998 bf9.9 and understand that they can be increased to 15hp. I already took off the throtle screw which gets it to 13.2. I've read that replacing the carb jets is the rest of the difference. Is that all that needs to be done #48 to #52 carb jets?

If 9.9 & 15 carb codes are same for both models, yes, if not, 15 HP has wider diameter gas passages and will need to replace complete carb. Check parts manual, changing jet numbers won't help.

You will spend a bunch of money for the new carb and probably won't be able to tell the difference. I would be happy where you are at now.

If both 9.9 & 15 has same exact CC, 9.9 is a detuned/restricted model, with correct parts conversion, will have better hole shot, carry more weight and better top speed. If parts are not that expensive, go for the conversion.

Also check if reed valves codes are same for both models, in some brands to convert properly, will need to change reed valves, gaskets, along with carb which can cost as much as $ 350.00 + for the whole package.

OK, now I'm really interested (I have a BF9.9) -- what is the throttle screw and how do I remove it to increase HP from 9.9 to 13.5? Thanks!
