I have a 2000 Honda BF40ALHA that I would like to convert to remote control. I have purchased a control model # 24800-ZV5-020. I also have all of the steering components that are needed. I was hoping this would be a plug and play type situation with the control box and cables, but I don't think that is the case. Can someone help me identify the wiring changes that need to be done to make this work? If it is a plug and play situation, what needs to be connected to make it work? Also, the cable connections on the motor run over a cam. Is there a way to change that to standard cable connections, or are there special cables needed to make that connection? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Shockley, did you ever figure this out? Because I am going through the same thing now with a BF50. I'm about to spring for the control box but feel like there's a lot I am missing. I'm hoping you blazed the trail for the rest of us...

Unfortunately, Honda only makes those kits for their smaller motors. What you will need is 2 33c cables, a new wiring harness, control box, and steering hook. The problem is you will be purchasing the steering parts for a motor that was previously set up for remote steering and may or may not attach to your motor. These are the basic components, but you may find you need other attaching hardware. It will be trial and error. Unlike Yamaha, Honda just does not put out many rigging kits for situations like this.

Re: Honda BF40A tiller to remote

I am in the process of this very same conversion on my 2007 BF40. I obtained a parts list from the original dealer and then compared it to the exploded diagrams on BOATS.NET to verify every item. I am ready to order the parts. I now have what I think is a complete list and I expect it to be plug and play. Please let me know if anyone thinks that this is not P-a-P.
My only open question is how to connect Teleflex (now known as VeeThree) Amega Tach and Trim gauges to the new side mount control box because individual wire harnesses do not seem to be available.. Thanks for any help or comments

I have a 2006 honda BF50A tiller. I bought it thinking it was a simple task of converting to controls. I bought a 24800-zw4-h14 control and can't seem to figure out how it connects to motor. Then I need steering components but I'm not as worried about them. If anyone has a list of parts required, short cuts or steps to take I would certainly appreciate your advice. Thank you.

Re: Honda BF40A tiller to remote

Here is my parts list.
06300-ZW5-000KT 1 $163.98 tach/trim kit [The trim meter did not work. Sent it to Faria and they replaced it. Will try again when boat comes out of storage. The tach is erratic. Faria says I need part #32197-ZH8-003 "tach adapter harness(Jumper Kit)" which installs from neg charge coil to tach sending wire. Neither Faria, Honda or any of several dealers know how to install this jumper kit which consists of a simple pigtail. I may have wasted money on the tach.]

24911-ZY3-003 2 $34.57 ctl cbl (call boat manufacturer and cable mfctr to double check required cqble length)
