I currently have a 1999 25 HP Honda four stroke outboard and am thinking about purchasing a 45 HP Honda four stroke for sale to replace it.

My boat is an aluminum 14' Lowe Sea Nymph.

Is there any significant difference in reliability / performance (with the exception of HP) that the 45 will provide over the 25?

Both are extremely low hours.

I also have the remote wiring harness for the 25 installed on my boat. Will I have to remove and install the one from the 45 HP boat or are they interchangeable.

Any other suggestions or tips would be much appreciated.

Thanks

My first concern is whether your boat can handle a 90% increase in horsepower. I think one motor is as good as the other. I ran a 15 HP Honda for over 4000 hrs and it was still going strong when I sold it. I currently run a 2008 225HP Honda on my 23WA and love it. My only wish was that had replaced the big black anchor years ago, the Honda would have saved me enough to pay the difference. (well maybe?)

Re: 1997 Honda 45 vs 1999 Honda 25 HP

The boat is rated for up to 50HP (14' Lowe Sea Nymph, factory wood floor, carpet, trolling motor, 2 batteries, side console, livewell etc).

I have the option to go with a mid 90's 45hp Honda four stroke (good price, carb model, good condition with good compression test) or the recent 50 HP EFI Honda (last 2 years).

I currently have the Honda BF25 on the boat which runs well but I feel is underpowered.

It is a freshwater fishing boat (lakes, and often used for trolling).

Is the 45 or 50 too much motor for trolling?

If I were to run the 45 or 50 at 3/4 throttle vs the bf25 at full throttle what is the difference in fuel consumption?

Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

That 45 has been around awhile so it might be nice to hear it run through all the ranges you intend to put it through.Carb problems can be prevelant and difficult to deal with in some circumstances.EFI is certainly the way to go if it is in your price range.50 horse sounds like alot for this package, but if you can handle it,god bless.BTW,the EFI will troll much slower.
