tohatsu lower unit question

I have just replaced my 40D tohatsu cooling kit with success but my only problem is, is it necessary to put some gasket sealer between the gear lower unit and the leg, because when i have removed the lower unit there was no gasket.10x.

The water pump kit should include:
Impeller
Impeller key
Pump case liner
Guide plate
Guide plate gasket
Pump case gasket
4 bolts

There is no gasket between the LU and the driveshaft housing, if that's your question.
