My boat has an external fuel/water separator fuel filter (spin on element style) installed between the tank and the motor. The inline filter inside the cowling of the 7 year old motor looks clean and clear.. Is it necessary to replace the internal filter on a regular basis if an external filter is installed?

It won't hurt..some things that clog those filters are hard to see, some things aren't. It never hurts to follow manufacturers recommendations in the case of warranty or repairs...
Also with today's lousy gas it won't hurt to replace that fuel/water seperator yearly..

Re: Honda 50 HP Fuel Filter

Thanks The fuel/water filter has been replaced every year since I bought the boat but never the inside filter.. Tomorrow I will replace the filter inside the cowling when I check the thermostat and replace the thermostat gasket which is also done yearly...
