what year is my nissan outboard ?

I just got a used outboard that needs some work and it is not clear what year it was made. It is an older model made in Japan Nissan NS8B 3B2-1 68438:confused:

Ayuh,... I've never messed with a Nissan,..
But,..
I would think they're like every other motor I've ever worked on,...
The Parts guy is going to want the Serial #,.... Not the year of it...
When you get to that point, he can give you a range of when it was built...

The old style serial #'s (5 digit ones) don't indicate the year. For that you'll need to contact Nissan Marine. Just go to their website at www.nissanmarine.com and go to the "Contact Us" page. From there, select the option to find your model year. Fill in the form and send it to them. They'll respond back to you w/ the model year.

But as the previous poster suggested, the model year isn't really that important. What is important is the model #. For Nissan motors, the same model # will be used over a period of several years. Therefore the model # is more important than the model year.
