I am helping a friend with some issues on his Honda 90. Hard starting due to cable corrosion in the selector switch ..FIXED ..now noticed water dripping on starter ......was leak in the water temp sender on the starboard side of the block ...FIXED ....thought we had everything done ...then noticed water pooling at base of starter ...... not coming from above .....also he's also gone thru one starter on this engine ( port).... had a look at it ...massive corrosion inside the planitary gears and the motor itself ....... As the flywheel/starter are enclosed in the mounting plate ...the question is ...where is the water coming from ??? the boat is a 26 twin engine cat used offshore almost daily ..... no issue with the other (starboard ) engine.

Going to pull the lower cowl monday but wondering if any boby has seen this before ??? Water check / pee tubes work fine ...

Thanks

Re: Honda BF90D water in starter

Thanks to a previous post on this issue we found the problem ...water is getting into the mount plate/flywheel housing thru the verticle shaft seal.

Honda is aware of this issue and has a service bulletin out on it.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who got a new starter N/C and anyone who got the verticle shaft seal replaced N/C

Thanks,
