I have found a good deal on a new 2009 Honda 135HP 4-stroke (BF135 model). I currently have a 17' ranger bass boat with a 1996 Evinrude 150 V6 intruder, but the engine is starting to give me major hassles. I would like to replace it with something more reliable and the 4-stroke will save on gas. I was wondering if anyone could give me a very rough estimate as to what top end speed I might expect out of my boat. I know there are a lot of factors to consider like prop pitch, boat load, hull type, altitude, etc. With my old 150 Evinrude on the lake I could get about 60mph out of the boat (at roughly sea level) I don't fly around at that speed all the time but its nice to know what its capable of. If anyone has this outboard or knows of someone who does and has any idea, any sort of rough speed estimate would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Power wise, the 135 will be ok, can't tell you about the speed issue. I would be more concerned about the weight difference of the heavy Honda compared to the Evinrude. I have friend who runs a 135 Honda on his 18-19 Bayliner Trophy. He looks heavy but it works for him.

Since you will be transitioning from a V6 down to an L4 you might find that weight difference hardly noticeable. Why not consider the 150 with VTEC .A few more bucks but man you can feel those valves kicking in.A good choice either way.

We have a 130 hp honda and love it. The extra weight is an issue, but we just live with it. Ours is on a 16 ft fiberglass semi V older silverline. Top speed is 48 trimed out and empty. The hionda is supper quiet and great on fuel.
