Tohatsu 40? year?

I have a tohatsu motor the guy I bought it from sid it was 40 hp.
He didn't know the year. I can not find a tag onthe motor with the numbers
on it. The only numbers I can find ae on the block they are.
89766 and 2WT680.
I'd like to know the year model and hp so I can gat a manual for it.
Anyone know what I have or where I can find out?

There should be a tag on the clamp in the format M40D or similar.

no tags anywhere on this motor. only thing I can find is what was stamped in the block.

Since all you have is a serial number, it may be possible to identify the model by reviewing the parts catalogs on Elvin's site at http://www.internetoutboards.com/PartsCatalogMenu.htm

You could also contact the factory by clicking on the "contact us" link at http://tohatsu.com/outboards/index.html

BTW, the precise model and serial is more important than manufacturing year.
