Honda BF50 (5hp) won't idle

Pre-97 honda 5hp. New fuel, filter, carb disassembled cleaned and reassembled with new gaskets etc. Motor fires right up and runs well at high idle but will not idle down low enough to shift into gear without dying. Any ideas?? It's driving me nuts.

Check to make sure your carb gasket is on right and making a good seal.

Adjust the idle mixture screw 1 1/4 turns our after lightly seated.

Check your choke linkage.

The idle passages are very small and are more likely to clog, if all else fails, clean and inspect the carb again.
