I've always done ( and enjoyed doing ) my own outboard servicing. Beyond saving $, I feel it keeps me in touch with the condition and mechanics of my motors. Anyway, since I'm new to 4 strokes, I'm looking for suggestions on a (aftermarket?) servicing manual to cover my new 30 Hp Tohatsu. Havn't found any here/ on the net for sale. Are they available?

Also, does doing your own 20 hr/ 100 rervice void any warrenty clauses?
Thinking I can certainly do my own fluid/filter changes anyway.

Do yourself a huge favor and get the OEM manual. It may cost a little more, but they give you much more (and better) information than any of the aftermarket manuals.

Ditto... while usually nearly twice as expensive as the aftermarket manuals, the OEM manuals are one item that's actually worth the extra money.

Illustrations and detail are much better.

Re: Tohatsu Service Manual

The Tohatsu 30 is a pretty straightforward, 3-cyl. EFI. You can do the routine oil, LU lube, filters (oil and gas), impeller and plug changes without hurting the warranty. Many of my customers do just that.

I definitely recommend the Factory service manual and parts catalog. The aftermarket manuals tend to be too general. They make decent doorstops, but not much more.

Any Tohatsu dealer will be happy to sell you a service manual. They may have to order it. They can also provide you with the parts catalog, or you can download one from http://www.internetoutboards.com/PartsCatalogMenu.htm

They also have a good tech page on the website that covers changing the LU lube, seasonal winterizing, and other tips at http://www.tohatsu.com/tech_info/index.html
